Image to text, read on your device.

Turn a photo, scan or saved image into editable text. OCR runs in your browser with Tesseract.js, so the image is never uploaded to a server.

Add an image to start.

JPG, PNG and WEBP are supported. The file is processed locally and does not leave your browser.

How it works

Three steps from pixels to text.

  1. Add the image

Drop a JPG, PNG or WEBP file into the converter, or choose it from your device. The image is read locally.

  2. Pick the language

Tell the OCR engine which language appears in the image. This has the biggest effect on accuracy.

  3. Copy the text

Run OCR, fix anything the engine misread, then copy the result or download it as a text file.

What makes image OCR accurate?

OCR compares the shapes in an image with letterforms it has learned. When those shapes are sharp and evenly lit, recognition is reliable. When they are blurred, skewed or low-contrast, the engine has to guess, and errors accumulate.

You do not need a scanner, but a few adjustments make a noticeable difference. Fill the frame with the text instead of photographing a whole desk. Avoid flash glare on glossy paper. Hold the camera parallel to the page so lines stay horizontal. If you are photographing a screen, raise the zoom level so the text is rendered at a usable size.

Resolution matters more than file size. A compressed JPG can still OCR well if the letters are large and clean. Conversely, a high-megapixel photo taken from too far away may leave each character only a few pixels tall.

Quick checklist

  • Use a straight, tightly cropped image.
  • Keep the text dark on a light background.
  • Select the correct OCR language, including regional variants.
  • Prefer PNG for screenshots and JPG for photos.
  • Check numbers, names and punctuation against the original.
